Justice Served: Teen Acquitted Over Sexual Assault Accusation
Case Study Summary
Our client was a teenager accused of sexual assault, on a female that he had met through Snapchat. After never having any legal dealings or knowledge, his family were understandably full of fear. Following our representation at police interviews and in court, our client was rightfully acquitted.
Case Study
Our client was a 15-year-old boy who was accused of Sexual Assault by Penetration. He was introduced to the complainant through his friend (male, 15), via the application Snapchat and the group of 3 decided to meet at the friend's house. Following this, it was alleged that our client grabbed the complainant, whilst his friend put his hands down her underwear.
Our client, with no prior convictions, was arrested in October 2023 and spent several months on police bail before being formally charged in May 2024. We provided representation during all police interviews and in court, ensuring a robust defence.
From the outset, our client consistently explained that the three individuals were playfully wrestling over a mobile phone, unaware that his friend had committed the alleged offence.
In preparation for the trial, we thoroughly analysed the evidence and we uncovered that the complainant had provided several inconsistent accounts to police officers, teachers, and social workers. In one of her initial statements, she expressed uncertainty about what our client’s intentions were when he grabbed her.
These inconsistencies were highlighted in court, and our client was acquitted of all charges. He and his family can now move forward without the weight of these serious allegations impacting their lives.
The case was dealt with by Peter Haney, Senior Case Worker and Police Station Representative.
