Motoring Law & Road Traffic Offence Solicitors
Stay on the road with the help of our driving law specialists
Is your driving licence priceless? Then in times of need look no further than our team of expert motoring offence solicitors. We are ranked as the number 1 firm in Liverpool, Runcorn & Warrington and in the top 10 nationally based on independent client feedback via Review Solicitors.
These days we are inundated with regulation and a big brother approach to road traffic policing. Road traffic offences are an increasingly complex area of law but with the right advice and representation at court from our team of expert driving offence solicitors, we can often prevent endorsement of a licence and disqualification from driving or an acquittal if the matter is contested.
We deal with all aspects of road traffic law from dangerous driving, careless driving, drink driving to no insurance, speeding or using a mobile telephone whilst driving.
We may be able to argue what’s called special reasons or exceptional hardship which means that even if you have committed an offence, you may avoid the usual penalty from the court or in the event of reaching 12 points and ‘totting’ up you may avoid a driving disqualification.
Whatever the situation, when it comes to keeping you on the road, our driving offence lawyers have the expertise to help.
In all cases, we offer a fixed price consultation to assess your case and we will provide you with a fixed price quote for dealing with the matter at court and can even come to an arrangement for our costs to be paid by instalments. In many successful cases we are able to recover some of your costs from the court.
Our team of experts have a combined post qualification experience in dealing with motoring offences of over 200 years and we offer an honest no-nonsense approach to your representation. Full details as to our experts and their experience, coupled with timescales and our fixed costs can be found here.

We regularly travel across the country to assist people at the police station or at court. Our lawyers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our police station representation service is free of charge. It is your legal right to have representation at the police station.
We highly recommend that you do not answer the police’s questions about an alleged offence until we are by your side to advise you. Anything you say during a police interview could be used in a decision to charge you or as evidence in court.
This includes if you have been invited for a voluntary interview under caution – these interviews are not casual chats. Instead, ask to call Bell Lamb & Joynson as soon as possible.
If you have received a Notice of Intended Prosecution, also get in touch as soon as possible for advice. It’s essential to face the charges head-on to give you the best chance of achieving a positive outcome.

Helping you keep hold of your licence
We understand the value your driving licence has, not just as a status of your ability to drive, but as your ticket to freedom in a world that increasingly relies on cars.
A driving ban could have a huge impact on your life. You may need your licence for your job, you may need to travel to see your children or relatives, maybe you’re a carer for someone and need to be able to drive them places, or maybe you just want to be able to travel when you need to.
Whatever you need your licence for, we’ll do everything possible to keep you on the road. Our motoring lawyers have considerable experience successfully defending people in court as well as making strong arguments against driving bans, such as arguing exceptional hardship or special reasons.
Defending you in serious driving offence investigations and prosecutions
Driving offences can sometimes be more serious than a few points on your licence and a possible driving ban.
You could be facing prison or a hefty fine if successfully convicted. But having the right lawyer on your side can make a huge difference.
We support all individuals, regardless of how ‘simple’ or serious their case may be. We can represent you at the police station, during criminal investigations and at court.
Our team includes lawyers who are qualified to represent clients at all court levels and are highly experienced in such matters. Our team includes our Managing Partner and Head of Criminal Law, Mike Leeman, who has around 25 years of qualifying experience.
Among our motoring law experts, we also have Senior Partner Jeremy Rawson who has been with the firm for nearly 40 years. Jeremy has acted in a range of complex and high profile criminal cases, so is perfectly placed to support you in your motoring offence matter.
We also have Solicitor Advocate, Jane Hedges, who has specialist experience in transport law prosecutions, including representing clients before the Traffic Commissioners at public inquiries.
Driving offence penalties
Being convicted or penalised for a driving offence can be extremely serious, with penalties ranging from a few points on your licence to a prison sentence. The severity of the penalties will depend on how serious the offence is.
For example, causing death by dangerous driving or death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison, an unlimited fine (or both), and a minimum driving disqualification of at least two years.
In many cases, such as driving without insurance or speeding, you will receive punishment (usually a type of fine called a Fixed Penalty Notice) at the side of the road after being pulled over by the police. It is sometimes possible to challenge Fixed Penalty Notices, so get in touch for advice.
